Dilly Court grew up in the suburbs of north-east London. Her imaginary
childhood friends soon became characters in stories that she made up to amuse
her cousin, Clive. She wrote her first book aged nine, very much under the
influence of Enid Blyton, and continued to scribble stories and plays all
through her schooldays.
Her first job was with Associated Rediffusion, London’s
original commercial television company, where she began as a secretary and
graduated to writing advertising copy. During her first marriage to a merchant
navy officer, she lived in various parts of the country, giving up work to
raise her son and daughter – who are now her best friends and have given her
three beautiful grandchildren.
She now lives by the sea in Dorset, on the beautiful Jurassic
coast with her most excellent husband, John, and their rather overweight and
extremely greedy, yellow Labrador, Archie. Her hobbies are gardening, cooking,
oil painting and knitting things for Millie, Talia and Douglas.
