Dilly Court grew up in the suburbs of north-east London. Her imaginary childhood
friends soon became characters in stories that she made up to amuse her cousin,
Clive. She wrote her first book aged nine, very much under the influence of Enid
Blyton, and continued to scribble stories and plays all through her schooldays.
Her first job was with Associated Rediffusion, London’s original commercial television
company, where she began as a secretary and graduated to writing advertising copy.
During her first marriage to a merchant navy officer, she lived in various parts
of the country, giving up work to raise her son and daughter – who are now her best
friends and have given her four beautiful grandchildren.
She now lives by the sea in Dorset, on the beautiful Jurassic coast with her most
excellent husband, John, and their rather overweight and extremely greedy, yellow
Labrador, Archie. Her hobbies are gardening, cooking, oil painting and knitting
things for Millie, Talia and Douglas & Peter.
